There are lots of reasons to visit the stunningly refurbished Central Library. Its evocative architecture, the domed reading room with its infamous echo, rich historic collections, the new Archives+ with its BFI mediatheque pods, a suite of apple macs and digi-screens, the City Library for reference and lending collections is just the start.
And then there is LibraryLive the city’s newest cultural programme in this fresh, lively venue where unexpected things happen, sociable, stimulating and slap-bang in the city centre.
Alongside the traditional library activities: author readings, talks, writer workshops, Central Library plays host to gigs, film nights, live performances, open-mic evenings and creative courses. Some events will take inspiration from the Library architecture, ambience and special collections, whilst others will simply be part of Manchester’s enviable year-round events and festivals calendar, programmed by local artists, performers and producers.
